Alberta's Shockwave Pioneer
20+ Years of Shockwave Experience ✦ Alberta's First Shockwave Clinic ✦ 1000's of Successful Treatments
You've Tried Everything, But The Pain Keeps Coming Back.
Maybe it's plantar fasciitis that makes every step painful. Or tennis elbow that flares up whenever you grip a racket. Or Achilles pain that's sidelined your training for months.
You've tried rest, stretching, cortisone shots, ice, heat—but the pain keeps returning.
Meanwhile, you're missing workouts, adjusting how you move just to get through the day, and wondering if surgery is your only option.
Here's the truth: Chronic tendon issues rarely heal on their own — but surgery isn't the only answer.
Shockwave Therapy: A Proven Solution For Stubborn Conditions
Dynamic Physiotherapy was the first clinic in Alberta to offer shockwave therapy — introducing it back in 2004 when few others had even heard of it.
Over two decades and thousands of treatments later, we’ve refined our protocols to consistently help patients recover from long-standing, treatment-resistant conditions.
How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
Shockwave therapy uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissue.
What it does:
⚡ Breaks down scar tissue and calcifications
🩸 Increases blood flow and oxygen to injured areas
🔬 Stimulates new cell growth and collagen production
🔥 Decreases chronic inflammation
⏩ Accelerates your body's natural repair process
The result?
Pain decreases, tissue heals, and you get lasting relief—often from conditions that haven't responded to anything else. At Dynamic Physiotherapy, shockwave is part of your complete treatment plan, supported by manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation, and education to ensure lasting results.
Shockwave treats the tendon, but IMS/Dry Needling is often needed to release the tight muscles that caused the strain in the first place.
What Conditions Does Shockwave Therapy Treat?
Chronic tendon & soft-tissue conditions
Chronic plantar fasciitis rarely resolves with stretching alone. Shockwave targets the fascia insertion at the heel, breaking the cycle of failed healing and triggering genuine tissue repair — often the turning point after months of persistent pain.
When the Achilles becomes chronically thickened, the tendon loses its ability to self-repair. Shockwave breaks down degenerative tissue, stimulates new collagen production, and restores the tendon's capacity to heal — where months of rest had made no difference.
One of shockwave's most well-researched applications. When the tendon attachment at the elbow breaks down from repetitive gripping or overhead work, shockwave restimulates the healing response at the insertion — restoring grip strength and function.
Shockwave is one of the only non-surgical options with strong evidence for breaking down calcium deposits in the shoulder. It also works for general rotator cuff tendinopathy — reducing pain and improving the shoulder's response to strengthening exercises.
Common in runners, cyclists, and anyone doing repetitive knee loading. When the patellar tendon is in a state of failed healing rather than active inflammation, shockwave restarts the repair process and allows patients to progress through rehabilitation and return to full activity.
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome and gluteal tendinopathy are often misdiagnosed and undertreated. Shockwave addresses the tendon and bursal tissue directly, providing relief for hip pain that hasn't responded to rest, cortisone, or stretching programs.

Alberta's First Shockwave Clinic — Still Leading the Way
- Thousands of Treatments Performed — We've treated more shockwave patients than any clinic in Alberta. That experience means faster, more accurate assessment of whether shockwave is right for you.
- We Assess Before We Treat — Not every patient is a shockwave candidate. We'll tell you honestly whether it's the right tool for your condition — and if it's not, we'll tell you what is.
- Part of Your Complete Recovery Plan — Shockwave works best alongside manual therapy and exercise rehab. We integrate it into your full plan, not as a standalone procedure.
- Same Physiotherapist Every Visit — You'll work with the same physio throughout your shockwave course, so we track your progress and adjust as you improve.
- Billed as Physiotherapy — Shockwave is performed by your physiotherapist and billed as part of your physiotherapy session — covered under most extended health plans that include physiotherapy benefits.

You’ll feel strong pulses during treatment — like deep pressure or tapping. It can be uncomfortable, but most patients describe it as “tough but worth it.”
Typically 3–5, spaced about a week apart. More chronic or severe cases may need a few additional sessions.
Many patients notice improvement after 2–3 sessions, with full results developing over 8–12 weeks.
Yes, usually with modifications. We’ll guide you on safe activity levels to avoid setbacks.
Many extended health plans cover shockwave therapy. We offer direct billing and can help confirm your coverage.
While highly effective for most chronic tendon issues, no treatment works 100% of the time. If results are limited, we’ll reassess and adjust your plan.
Shockwave is a non-invasive, safe treatment. The most common side effect is mild, temporary soreness or "aching" in the treated area for 24–48 hours, similar to the feeling after an intense workout. Occasionally, patients may see minor redness or slight bruising. These are actually positive signs that the body’s natural healing response has been "restarted."
Shockwave Therapy is often considered a "middle ground" for chronic conditions like plantar fasciitis or rotator cuff tendonitis. While surgery involves downtime, anesthesia, and scar tissue, Shockwave requires zero recovery time and carries significantly lower risk. Many patients choose Shockwave as a final non-surgical attempt to resolve pain, often achieving results that allow them to avoid the operating room entirely.
